In June 2011, Sandy Hartley, 62, began experiencing severe abdominal pain. She went to her primary care physician, Mukesh Shah, M.D., who knew right away that she needed to go to the hospital. “Her condition required immediate attention,” says Dr. Shah, who is affiliated with Ocean Medical Center. “I told her to go straight to Ocean because of the excellent surgical and gastroenterological team at Ocean Medical Center.”
At Ocean, Sandy was diagnosed with diverticulitis and a perforated colon, conditions that could have required surgery. Thankfully, however, she recovered with medical treatment only.
