Recovery
The impact of a difficult diagnosis or extensive treatment on a child and the child's family can be overwhelming.
For that reason, the Meridian Pediatric Network offers rehabilitation, support groups, and physical and speech therapy to help continue the healing both mentally and physically.
Our pediatric rehabilitation specialists work with families to address the specific needs of the children they see. Our specialized team consists of audiologists, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists who evaluate, treat, and assist children of all ages with a variety of neurological, orthopedic, and developmental needs.
Whether born with an illness, just diagnosed with one, or suffered a traumatic injury, your child may experieince trouble performing day-to-day activities. Occupational therapy can help children improve their cognitive, physical, and motor skills. And, just as important, it can help build their self esteem and provide a sense of accomplishment for those performing a task for the first time or relearning one that they have done a million times before.
On the road to recovery, therapy often extends beyond physical healing and into emotional healing. Our unique art and pet therapy programs enable children to use creativity and positive thinking to express their feelings as they deal with tragic events and recovery. In fact, the pet therapy dogs can often be seen stopping in on the pediatric unit for a visit, bringing smiles to kids' faces as they hug, pet, and play with these cuddly friends.
Support groups are available for our pediatric patients and their families who are coping with the stress of a particular illness or injury. We are home to a diabetes program that has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for excellence in self-management education.
