Department of Anesthesiology
- The objectives of the assignment in Anesthesiology are as follows:
- To familiarize the residents with the Operating Room facility at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
- To familiarize the residents with all of the general anesthesia procedures available in the modern hospital.
- To assist the Anesthesiologist in whatever capacity he is permitted.
- It is expected that during the training period while assigned to the Anesthesiology Department, the dental residents will become familiarized with such techniques as intubation, resuscitation, and intravenous induction of patients in the Operating Room.
- It is also to be considered that the training obtained while under the supervision of the Anesthesiology Department may very well serve as a credential for the residents in the event that he/she should wish to apply for Operating Room privileges after he/she has finished his/her year of residency.
- It is also to be considered that a working knowledge of the Operating Room facility as well as the experience gained from the Department of Anesthesiology may very well direct our residents towards further formal training in oral surgery if that might be his/her wish or even Anesthesiology if that might be his./her wish.
- The resident is under the direct supervision of the Department of Anesthesiology while he/she is assigned to that Department. Needless to say other members of the Department of Anesthesiology are involved with the training program, but the Director is in charge during this period of assignment to the Anesthesiology Department.
