  1. How do I apply to the OB-GYN
    Residency Program at Jersey Shore Medical Center?
  2. We choose our residents from the candidates who apply via the ERAS Program. ERAS is the Electronic Residency Application Service. It is commonly used by medical graduates or medical students in their final year of medical college to apply for specialized graduate training in residency programs in the U.S. More information can be found at their web site http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/start.htm

    OB/GYN Residency

    Our applicants have all successfully passed Part 1 and Part 2 of the USMLE. The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE™) is sponsored by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) of the United States, Inc., and the National Board of Medical Examiners® (NBME®). Results of the USMLE are reported to medical licensing authorities in the United States and its territories for use in granting the initial license to practice medicine. The three Steps of the USMLE assess a physician's ability to apply knowledge, concepts, and principles that are important in health and disease and that constitute the basis of safe and effective patient care.   4. Jersey Shore Medical Center is a 502-bed regional medical center and university hospital affiliate of UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School located in Neptune, New Jersey. Home to the top-rated cardiac surgery program in the State, and the only trauma center in Monmouth and Ocean counties, Jersey Shore University Medical Center specializes in cardiac care and surgery, orthopedics and rehabilitation, cancer care, and advanced women's and children's health.

    Jersey Shore University Medical Center is a member of the Meridian Health Family of non-profit health care organizations which also includes Ocean Medical Center in Brick, Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, and Partner Companies that include home care agencies, long-term living communities, ambulatory care, ambulance services, and occupational health located throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties.

    Jersey Shore serves an economically and culturally diverse population ideal for the clinical learning required in residency education. Medical students come to Jersey Shore Medical Center for third year clerkships in Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Psychiatry. They also come as second year medical students for Introduction to Clinical Medicine, and as seniors for sub-internships and electives.

    Jersey Shore has state-of-the-art information systems including sophisticated physician workstations and a health sciences library with 14 computers featuring web access and evidence-based medicine databases. Patient records are available on-line on a longitudinal medical record, thereby facilitating access to information. Personal order sets can be constructed to ease physician order entry. Remote access facilitates follow up on patients from off-site locations such as home or ambulatory care office.

  7. Can I arrange to do a rotation or come for observation?
  8. Students are welcome to arrange electives with us. During the elective the student will set learning goals with their faculty advisor. The student is free to develop an in depth course of study for any of the areas of OB-GYN. We have faculty who can guide you in obstetrics, perinatology, general gynecology, ambulatory care, urogynecology, geriatric gynecology, reproductive endocrinology and gynecologic oncology. Tutorials can also be arranged in OB ultrasound. Students are encouraged to participate in a clinical research project.
