ANCC Magnet Designation

ANCC Magnet Recognition

In 1998, Meridian Health was the first health care system in the nation to achieve Magnet nursing status at each of our hospitals: Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune; Ocean Medical Center, Brick; and Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Meridian is proud to say that to date, we have continually attained 100 percent Magnet status at all three medical centers.

What is the Magnet Award for Excellence?
The Magnet award is bestowed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the nation's largest and foremost nursing accrediting and credentialing organization, to honor the nursing staffs of the hospitals that meet the nations highest standards.

The Magnet Recognition Program for Excellence in Nursing Services was developed by the ANCC in 1994 to recognize facilities that provide the very best in nursing care and uphold the tradition within nursing that supports professional nursing practice. The program is based on quality indicators and standards of nursing practice.

Why is "Magnet" status important?
Magnet status is important because it acknowledges hospitals that act as a "magnet" for excellence by creating a work environment that recognizes, rewards, and promotes professional nursing. It sets us above other institutions that haven't been able to achieve this status.
