FOUR RIVERVIEW PHYSICIANS HONORED AT RECOGNITION DINNER

Doctors recognized for lifetime achievements.

Red Bank, NJ - Four distinguished Riverview physicians have been honored with the 2007 Physician Recognition Award. The award is bestowed upon physicians who are selected by their peers at the medical center.

According to David Drout, M.D., president of the Riverview Medical Center Medical Staff, the annual event is an opportunity for physicians to recognize their own. "Each year we strive to recognize individuals who have made major contributions to the medical staff, hospital and community at large. It is an opportunity to recognize our most dedicated and honored colleagues."

This year the medical staff recognized two active physicians and two retired colleagues. They include: Dennis Fitzgerald, M.D., Donald Gill, M.D., Walter Kahn, M.D., and Donald Rothman, M.D.

Dennis Fitzgerald, M.D. is a medical oncologist who has been on staff at Riverview Medical Center since 1985 and served as chair of the department of medicine and on many committees. He has been instrumental in building the oncology program at the medical center and has dedicated many hours to the growth of Riverview, both as a physician and in his administrative roles. Dr. Fitzgerald trained at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center and the University of Rochester Medical Center. He resides in Colts Neck.

Donald Gill, M.D. has contributed nearly 40 years of service to Riverview. As a specialist in hematology, he has served as Vice Chairman for the Department of Medicine and been part of many committees. He is held in high regard by his peers and patients as a dedicated Riverview physician. Although retired, Dr. Gill continues to serve RMC as a physician advisor. Dr. Gill trained at Harrisburg Hospital and Veteran's Administration Hospital in Pennsylvania, and completed fellowships at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital. He resides in Shrewsbury.

Walter Kahn, M.D. has been a long standing member of the Medical Executive Committee, a department head, president of the medical staff and member of the Board of Governors for Meridian Health. In all of his endeavors, he has placed the cause of patients and physicians above all other issues, as evidenced by his involvement with the Medical Society of New Jersey, the AMA, and vast volunteer efforts (having completed eleven tours as part of Project Orbis to Africa, Haiti, Phillipines, India, China, Latvia, Mongolia and Uzbekistan.) He completed his medical residency at the University of Illinois and a fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Kahn resides in Rumson.

Donald Rothman, M.D. retired in 2004 after serving on the Riverview medical staff for 33 years. He served as Director of Surgery and participated in several committees, and was active in community education. Even in his retirement, Dr. Rothman continues to be part of the Riverview family by working part time as a Physician Advisor in the Department of Outcomes Management. Dr. Rothman completed his residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and his fellowship in Glascow Royal Infirmary in Scotland. He resides in Red Bank.
