RIDE FOR RIVERVIEW TO BENEFIT BOOKER CANCER CENTER IN RED BANK
Monmouth County Horse Show Recognized as top Caliber Hunter Competition
Red Bank, NJ - The 112th Annual Monmouth County Horse Show will take place August 22 - 26, featuring the Ride for Riverview, a fundraising event which benefits the Jane H. and John Marshall Booker Cancer Center at Riverview Medical Center. The Ride for Riverview Committee, chaired by Carol Stillwell of Holmdel, has raised more than $600,000 for the Booker Cancer Center since its inception in 1998. The 112th Annual Monmouth County Horse Show, held at East Freehold Park in New Jersey, is one of the oldest continuous equestrian events in the country. This USEF "AA" rated competition has been recognized by the American Hunter and Jumper Foundation (AHJF) as one of the nation's finest equestrian showcases. Some of the very best hunter professionals attend the Monmouth County Horse Show. Anne Kursinski, Nona Garson, Joe Fargis, Callan Solem, Kevin Babington, Holly Orlando, Lyman Whitehead, Scott Stewart, Ken Berkley, Leslie Howard, Lisa Jacquin are just a few of the nation?s leading riders who will participate in the competition. Three nationally influential trainers, Carol Thompson and Frank and Stacia Madden, are an integral force at the show. Carol has represented the USET in international competition, while the Maddens have coached many students to national horsemanship championships. On Sunday, August 25 the Healey Family is sponsoring the Family Day which will include a petting zoo. This is an opportunity for children to get involved and see an array of animals. Last year, local rider Hugo Huesca won the Stillwell-Hansen GrandGrad Prix during the main event of the 111th Monmouth County Horse Show and Ride for Riverview. A resident of Farmingdale, NJ, Huesca edged out the prior year's winner, Laura Chapot, by .21 seconds during the jump-off. The event featured 32 competitors from throughout the nation, of which four were U.S. Olympians. The Monmouth County Horse Show is a member of the AHJF's World Champion Hunter Rider (WCHR) Program and is one of only six such designated events in the Northeast Region. Only forty-five horse shows in the eight different regions across the country meet the high standards required by the American Hunter and Jumper Foundation to receive the World Championship banner. Other shows in the Northeast Region include Fairfield, Old Salem, Skidmore, Lake Placid, and the prestigious Hampton Classic Horse Show. Each year, the members of the American Hunter and Jumper Foundation are presented with a voting ballot and are asked to select shows which meet the highest standards. Since its beginning, the AHJF has followed a clearly defined set of criteria for designating horse shows to participate in the WCHR program. It is through this program that the exhibitors acknowledge the efforts of show management to meet those high show standards. Good footing, appropriate schooling areas, exhibitor hospitality, appropriate ring size, top judges and officials, responsiveness to exhibitor feedback, parking, and seating are just some of the important facets taken into consideration. This is the seventh consecutive year that the Monmouth County Horse Show has been selected to participate in this prestigious program. "The Monmouth County Horse Show has worked hard to meet the criteria for World Championship Hunter Rider recognition," said Show Manager Leo Conroy. "Monmouth County is a great hunter venue, with wonderful hospitality, good footing and great judges, and we're happy that the American Hunter and Jumper Foundation has recognized our hard work for the seventh year in a row." The WCHR National Awards program recognizes the top Professional, Junior, Adult Amateur, Pony and Amateur riders through points accumulated throughout the year at the rider's top four WCHR shows. These riders are then invited to compete directly against one another in Challenge Classes at the Capital Challenge Horse Show in Upper Marlboro, MD, in October. In the Professional Division, the top four riders compete in a four rider challenge to determine the Monarch International's Show Circuit Magazine Professional World Championship Hunter Rider. 112th Annual Monmouth County Horse Show Fast Facts EVENT: 112th Annual Monmouth County Horse Show and Ride for Riverview to benefit Riverview Medical Center WHAT: New Jersey's Longest Running and Most Prestigious Hunter and Jumper Horse Show.
