We’re Smoke-Free Because We Care

As a health care organization, Meridian Health is committed to the health and safety of our patients, guests, and team members. One of the most significant contributors to serious health problems like heart disease, stroke, and cancer is smoking, and second-hand smoke has been shown to contribute to the health problems of those around us. That's why Meridian has partnered with the American Cancer Society and other hospitals and health care systems throughout the state to become a totally smoke-free environment by November 20, 2008, the date of the traditional Great American Smokeout.

With a mission to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve, we believe that we have a responsibility to take a leadership role on this major health issue, and allowing people to use tobacco products defeats this purpose. Therefore, we prohibit the use of tobacco products on hospital grounds and all off-site properties owned or leased by Meridian Health. This includes sidewalks, walkways, driveways, and parking areas/parking garages.

Our decision to be smoke-free is not an attempt to force anyone to quit using tobacco products; however, help is available for those who wish to quit.
