Riverview Moms Get Some Mothering of Their Own
This first-time mother from Tinton Falls was delighted to find that Riverview’s Childbirth Center
offers the same kind of outstanding care and personalized attention that’s been a tradition
in her family’s business for years.
Having your first baby can be
overwhelming — it’s uncharted
territory. You’re not quite sure what to
expect. How many hours will I be in
labor? How bad will the pain be? Do
I want to breastfeed? And, if so, will
I know what to do? It helps to have
a team around you that will put you
at ease and anticipate your every need.
Stephanie Garmany found just such
a team at Riverview Medical Center.
A Labor of Love
"I was very nervous," says Stephanie of
her feelings upon first going into labor.
"Your heart is beating, and you don’t
know what to expect. You’re getting a
contraction, but that doesn’t even seem
to be bothering you — your mind just
keeps going, and you’re just so nervous."
But once Stephanie arrived at the
Childbirth Center at Riverview, she felt
much more relaxed. "They made sure
that I was okay, comfortable, and that
I had my epidural right away," reports
the Tinton Falls resident. "They talked
me through every moment and told
me what to expect. That was really
important to me."
And then, just like that, Arianna was
born! "I couldn’t believe that I was
holding this baby who was inside of
me just a few minutes before. I was
excited, and the nurses were cheering
and Dr. Loh Collado was so happy.
It was a great experience."
In the capable hands of Riverview’s
board-certified obstetricians,
Magnet Award–winning nurses,
neonatologists, maternal fetal
specialists, anesthesiologists, and
24-hour in-house pediatricians,
Stephanie and her new little girl
had round-the-clock expert care.
Superior Service
Stephanie herself knows a little bit
about pleasing customers. Her family
owns one of the most customer
service–oriented department stores
in the area — Garmany, in Red Bank
— where the experience is tailored
to the shopper, personalized options
are offered, and clients’ needs are seen
to with great attention.
The Garmany family was very pleased
to find that Stephanie received the
same kind of attention at Riverview.
In the hospital’s Childbirth Center, all
moms enjoy private, "four-star, cozy
rooms" and benefit from the "Couplet
Care" philosophy, whereby they can
depend on the same nurse pre- and
postpartum. "It was like a hotel,"
Stephanie says. "They accommodated
my every need."
And the specialized attention didn’t
end once Stephanie was discharged.
"Carol, the lactation consult, was very helpful; she and Dr. Loh Collado made
follow-up calls, which really meant
a lot," adds the new mom.
"I like to check in on my moms,"
confirms Marilyn Loh Collado, M.D.,
Stephanie’s OB/GYN. "Childbirth is just
the beginning. A lot of moms have
questions and need support after they
go home." As chair of the Childbirth
Center, Dr. Loh Collado is instrumental
in making that type of support available
to new parents. "At Riverview, we offer
complimentary education classes,
like ‘Baby Makes Three,’ which allows
new moms and dads to come back
and ask questions and meet with our
lactation consultant even after they’ve
returned home."
And now that she is home, what’s
motherhood like for Stephanie? "Being
a mom is the best experience. I’m so
happy. Just the smile that Arianna gives
me is the best feeling."
