RED BANK EMERGENCY PHYSICIAN HOWARD RUBINSTEIN, MD, RECOGNIZED BY THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF EMERGENCY PHYSICIANS AS A "HERO OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE"The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) recently announced it has recognized Howard Rubinstein, MD, FACEP, medical director of the Emergency Department at Riverview Medical Center, as a "Hero of Emergency Medicine." The campaign, which is part of ACEP's 40th anniversary, recognizes emergency physicians who have made significant contributions to emergency medicine, their communities and their patients.
"Emergency physicians are on the front lines of America's health care system, providing the essential community service of emergency care," says ACEP President Linda L. Lawrence, MD. "The dedication, passion and commitment Dr. Rubinstein has shown embodies the vision of ACEP's founders and the ideals of our specialty."
When Dr. Rubinstein arrived at Riverview Medical Center, the emergency department was in need of an upgrade. Press Ganey scores were low and volume was falling. "We essentially went from worst to best," says Dr. Rubinstein. "I couldn't be more proud of this team."
Today, The Alton Hovnanian Emergency Care Center at Riverview Hospital is among seven emergency departments in the country to receive the J.D. Power Award. Press Ganey scores are now in the 90th percentile and emergency department volume is increasing. EMS volume has doubled and throughput times have been decreased by half. Patients report that their emergency department visit gives them "much more trust and confidence in the hospital," according to the J.D. Power study. His efforts to turn the emergency department around make Dr. Rubinstein a true ACEP hero.
"The American College of Emergency Physicians is celebrating 40 years of advancing emergency care, and the nation's emergency physicians are dedicated to saving even more lives and to improving emergency care for the next 40 years," said Dr. Lawrence. "Tens of thousands of lives are saved each year by emergency physicians and 115 million patients are treated in the nation's emergency departments. Emergency physicians are medical specialists who are experts in their field."
