Ocean Medical Center Physician Appointed To Commission On Cancer Position
Dr. Bhandari Selected to Join National Network of ExpertsTarun Bhandari M.D., of Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey, received a three-year appointment as Cancer Liaison Physician for the cancer program at Ocean Medical Center. Cancer Liaison Physicians are an integral part of cancer programs accredited by American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC).
Dr. Bhandari is among a national network of over 1,600 volunteer physicians who are responsible for providing leadership and direction to establish, maintain, and support their facilities' cancer program. Dr. Bhandari, who has a significant interest in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with malignant disease, is a member of the multidisciplinary cancer committee at Ocean Medical Center, and institution which is dedicated to facilitating the delivery of comprehensive quality cancer care.
Ocean Medical Center's comprehensive cancer program includes a dedicated inpatient oncology unit, outpatient oncology/chemotherapy and infusion center, advanced radiation oncology with Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), and High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy. Patients have access to cancer clinical trails in affiliation with the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Network , and family risk levels for cancer can be identified working with the medical center's genetics specialists with the Hereditary Cancer Risk Genetics Program.
Cancer Liaison Physicians are responsible for spearheading CoC initiatives within the cancer program at Ocean Medical Center; collaborating with local agencies, such as the American Cancer Society; and facilitating quality improvement initiatives utilizing data submitted to the CoC's National Cancer Database. The CoC collects data from its accredited cancer programs and provides tools back to these facilities to facilitate the analysis of patterns of diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. Bhandari is a board certified general surgeon who specializes in surgical oncology. He has offices in Point Pleasant and Toms River, New Jersey.
