Bayshore Community Hospital Announces Newly Developed Center for Bariatrics
Center led by one of the premier bariatric surgeons in the nationIn the past decade, morbid obesity has been on the rise and comes with a number of problematic health issues. Bayshore Community Hospital is successfully helping patients deal with this major public health problem and is proud to announce a newly developed Center for Bariatrics, led by nationally-recognized bariatric specialist, Karl Strom, M.D. Dr. Strom has performed over 3,000 bariatric surgical procedures and has been named a Top Doc by New Jersey Monthly magazine.
"I'm excited to join Bayshore Community Hospital and offer hope to patients throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties," says Dr. Strom. "Our Center will provide a team approach designed to help our patients manage their total health."
Dr. Strom joins Bayshore Community Hospital with more than 10 years of experience, to build the region's most comprehensive program for bariatric patients. He has changed the lives of thousands of people who have relied on his expertise for bariatric surgery. Dr. Strom is board certified in bariatric surgery, laparoscopic surgery and general surgery, as well as fellowship-trained in minimally invasive surgery. In addition to his work with patients, Dr. Strom serves as proctor, teaching other bariatric surgeons the latest bariatric techniques and technologies.
The new Center takes a comprehensive approach on bariatric treatment including: counseling, nutrition, exercise and medical/surgical treatment. The Center features the LAP-BANDR System, the only U.S. FDA approved, adjustable and completely reversible procedure, which requires less than a 24-hour hospital stay, has no stomach stapling or rerouting, and is 10 times safer than gastric bypass.
Dr. Strom previously led the implementation of two other Bariatric Centers, one located at Bayshore's sister hospital Southern Ocean Medical Center. The Center at SOMC has been designated a "Center of Excellence" by the American Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.
Bayshore Community Hospital's Center for Bariatrics is one of the most comprehensive in the region offering free informational sessions, pre-surgical education and evaluation, personal guidance through the surgical process, nutritional support, exercise components and support groups.
