Ocean Medical Center annual event a great success.Ocean Medical Center hosted its 4th annual Community Day and Life's Inspirations 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 21, 2011. 120 runners started the day with the 5K run/walk, which was kicked off by Dan Toth, Vice President of the Brick Township Council. Jeffrey Dichiara of Atlantic Highlands and Dactilia Booth of Long Branch were the top male and female winners of the 5K. The kids' races attracted 200 participants ages 3 - 10, who were each given an authentic Mickey Mouse balloon and Mickey ears hat, which were all donated by Disney.
Families spent the remainder of the day enjoying free education and activities provided by all the departments at the medical center, rides and games, free food, and entertainment. Demonstrations were provided by Meridian Life Fitness, Kum Sung Karate of Brick, and the Brick Memorial High School cheerleading squad.
The event also recognized Justin Ridolfo, a fifth grade student from Herbertsville Elementary School in Brick, for winning the t-shirt design contest for the 5K shirts. Justin was one of more than 100 fifth grade students from Brick Township who participated in a contest to design a logo that would go on the front of the event t-shirt. In addition to being recognized at Community Day with a special prize, all of Justin's fifth grade classmates and all the teachers at Herbertsville Elementary School received a commemorative t-shirt with his special design.
