Fifth Annual Community Day and 5k Run/Walk Slated for May 19 at Ocean Medical Center
Cash prizes for top race finishers, free raffles and activities for all attendeesOcean Medical Center will hold its annual Community Day and 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, May 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This free event will be held on the great lawn at Ocean Medical Center, located at 425 Jack Martin Boulevard in Brick. Parking is free.
Activities include free kids' races for ages 3 - 10 years old. The first 300 kids to register will receive a DisneyR gift, and the first place winners in each age category will receive a DisneyR prize. (Categories are ages 3 & 4, 5 & 6, 7 & 8, and 9 & 10 years old.) All children participating in the races will receive a medal. Kids' races will start at 10:00 a.m.
The day will also include free food, a petting zoo, dunk tank, games, inflatables, fire truck rides, trackless train rides, entertainment, Zumbatomic for kids, a sports zone, health screenings, and free raffles for all attendees.
The 5k Run/Walk begins at 8:30 a.m. on a new route that takes runners through residential streets in Brick. Participants of all levels are welcome to join in, so whether you are an experienced runner, new to the sport, or want to complete the route while pushing a stroller, everyone is invited. The 5k offers great prizes for competitive athletes, with the top male and female winners each winning a cash prize AND 46" LCD TV. There are also cash prizes for male and female top placers in age categories. If you are new to racing or simply want to get out and take things at a slower place, then you'll be happy to know that all race participants will be entered into random drawings for outstanding prizes.
Ocean's 5k is the first of three races that are part of the Meridian Health Heart and Sole Cup. Cash prizes are awarded at all three races, so be sure to continue your involvement with the events at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in September, and at Bayshore Community Hospital in October.
