Friends on the Bay Raises $90,000 for Ocean Medical Center Expansion Project
Annual fundraiser sees record attendance, raises pledge for Emergency Department campaignThe Guild of Ocean Medical Center has raised $90,000 from its annual event, Friends on the Bay. In its eighth year, the annual fundraiser continues to garnish community support and had 260 people attend at the Manasquan River Golf Club in June.
Susan and Ernie Scherler of Brick and Priscilla and Carl Hiby of Mantoloking continued the strong tradition and served as chair-people for one of the premier fundraisers to support Ocean Medical Center. During the function they made a special announcement, sharing that the Guild has pledged an additional $100,000 to the capitol campaign to build a new emergency department at Ocean Medical Center. This is in addition to the pledge that they made just two years prior, bringing their total to $200,000.
"For many years, the Guild has consistently shown support for Ocean Medical Center. Their volunteer work has resulted in donations that have brought in a range of items, from new technologies and equipment, to contributions towards our current building project," says president of Ocean Medical Center, Dean Q. Lin, MHA, MBA, FACHE, FCPP. "They have succeeded in creating a signature event that the community looks forward to each year, and have fostered wonderful new relationships and support for the medical center. We are truly grateful for their efforts."
Honorees at this year's event were Brielle residents Peter and Dale Wegener. The Wegeners have a long history with Ocean Medical Center, with their support spanning decades, even to the hospital's inception.
