Hip and Knee Replacement Programs Receive Joint Commission Accreditation

Ocean Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of ApprovalTM for its Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Program by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specific care. The certification award recognizes Ocean Medical Center's dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission's rigorous standards.

To obtain certification, Ocean Medical Center underwent an intensive on-site survey. Employees and doctors were interviewed, facilities were inspected, and patient charts received thorough evaluation and scrutiny. The survey evaluated Ocean Medical Center for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients and families, including infection prevention and control, leadership, and medication management.

Joseph P. Bogdan, M.D., co-medical director of the joint replacement program at Ocean, says, "Endorsements from agencies such as The Joint Commission validate the exceptional work that is being done at Ocean Medical Center. Our community members can be assured that quality orthopedic services are available close to home, with positive outcomes that rival big city facilities. What sets our program apart is the level of convenience and personal concern that is the standard at Ocean."

In addition to Joint Commission certification for total joint replacement, Ocean Medical Center's program is comprised of many components that ensure quality care, close to home. The program has Board Certified surgeons, Magnet accredited nurses (validating excellence in nursing), nationally certified nurses specializing in joint replacement, Doctorate prepared physical and occupational therapists, advanced equipment and facilities, and a dedicated joint program liaison and coordinator.

According to Arthur K. Mark, M.D., "The total joint replacement program has an interdisciplinary team of experts who provide a continuum of care to the patients. Working together, we provide a center of excellence that can restore patients to their individual optimum level of functioning."

"I'm extremely proud of the entire team who made it possible to achieve this distinguished accreditation," says Dean Q. Lin, FACHE, president of Ocean Medical Center. "The Joint Commission certification process is designed to help organizations continuously provide safe, high-quality care, treatment, and services. We take great pride in pairing this clinical expertise and excellence with a patient experience that sets Ocean's joint replacement program apart from others in the tri-state area."
