Jersey Shore University Medical Center's Trauma Center Receives Prestigious Reverification from the American College of SurgeonsJersey Shore University Medical Center's Trauma Center has been recognized by The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma as a Level II Trauma Center. This achievement, first received by Jersey Shore in 1991, distinguishes the hospital as the only Level II trauma center in Monmouth and Ocean counties, and reflects the trauma team's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.
Established by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) in 1987, the Committee on Trauma's Consultation/Verification Program for Hospitals promotes the development of trauma centers in which participants provide not only the hospital resources necessary for trauma care, but also the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients. This spectrum encompasses the prehospital phase through the rehabilitation process. Verified trauma centers must meet the essential criteria that ensure trauma care capability and institutional performance, as outlined by the American College Surgeons' Committee on Trauma.
The ACS Committee on Trauma's verification program provides confirmation that a trauma center has demonstrated its commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients. The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical education and practice and to improve the care of the surgical patient.
According to Felix Garcia-Perez, M.D., FACS, Director of Trauma at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, "Jersey Shore's trauma team is proud to earn the Level II Trauma distinction once again. Every community deserves a hospital that is prepared to treat severe injuries, as injury is the leading cause of death in people between the ages of one and forty-four. The Level II Certification confirms that Jersey Shore's Trauma Center provides comprehensive services, multidisciplinary experts and sophisticated resources to care for the most critically injured patients."
