Termination of United Healthcare Medicare Advantage products

Please be advised that effective January 15, 2014, Meridian Health and its hospitals will no longer be participating providers in United Healthcare Medicare Advantage Plans, known as SecureHorizon and Evercare/Erickson Medicare Advantage. This does not affect any of United Healthcare's commercial products.

Meridian Health hospitals include:

  • Bayshore Community Hospital
  • Jersey Shore University Medical Center
  • K. Hovnanian Children's Hospital
  • Ocean Medical Center
  • Riverview Medical Center
  • Southern Ocean Medical Center

Please note that Meridian Health still participates with the following Medicare Advantage Plans:

  • Aetna
  • AmeriHealth
  • Geisinger Gold
  • Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield

After the termination effective date of January 15, 2014, United Healthcare's SecureHorizon and Evercare/Erickson members may continue to use Meridian facilities under the required 120 day wind down period, a period of time following the termination of a contract when members can still access the hospitals on an in-network basis, through May 15, 2014.

United Healthcare SecureHorizon and Evercare/Erickson patients with out-of-network benefits may opt to receive care at non-participating hospitals. However, use of Meridian facilities may trigger additional patient financial responsibility.

It is also important to note that United Healthcare SecureHorizon and Evercare/Erickson members who do not have out-of-network benefits will always have access to emergency treatment at a Meridian hospital.

If you are a United Healthcare SecureHorizon or Evercare/Erickson member and have questions, please call the United Healthcare Member Services telephone number listed on your member ID card.

Members should always consult United Healthcare directly with any questions.
