Meridian Cancer Care Welcomes Thomas Lee Bauer II, M.D., Medical Director, Thoracic Oncology

Meridian Cancer Care welcomes Thomas Lee Bauer II, M.D., a thoracic surgeon and respected leader of programs and research for the treatment of lung and esophageal cancer. Dr. Bauer will enhance and expand the program's minimally invasive surgical capabilities, including aerodigestive tract stenting, CyberKnife, minimally invasive trans-thoracic and trans-hiatal esophagectomy, VATS and robotics.

Dr. Bauer has been a practicing thoracic surgeon for twelve years at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Care in Newark, Delaware where he served as the chief of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Bauer has also been associate professor of Surgery at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and held academic appointments for the past ten years. Dr. Bauer helped expand the Center's thoracic oncology capabilities and developed numerous clinical research and educational programs sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Bauer is also a fellow/member of numerous professional organizations and has authored numerous peer reviewed articles in the New England Journal of Medicine, The Journal of the American Medical Association, Annals of Internal Medicine, and The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He is also on the editorial board of Journal of Surgical Oncology and Annals of Surgical Oncology.

He will also have privileges throughout Meridian Cancer Care, including: Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, Ocean Medical Center in Brick and Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin.
