Bayshore Community Hospital Earns Second ACR Accreditation
Gold Seal of Accreditation Represents Highest Level of Image Quality and Patient Safety
Bayshore Community Hospital has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). An MRI uses magnetic field and radio waves to create cross sectional pictures of the body to highlight disease or injury to parts of the body.
“This is the second accreditation awarded to Bayshore by the ACR in less than a year, with the first being for CT in August,” says David G. Wirtshafter, M.D., chairman of radiology at Bayshore Community Hospital. “ACR accreditation is a true testament to the team’s commitment to providing patients with safe and high quality care.”
The ACR gold seal of accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.
