Jersey Shore University Medical Center Welcomes Arif Asif, M.D., FASN, FNKF as Chair of Medicine
Jersey Shore University Medical Center welcomes Arif Asif, M.D., FASN, FNKF, a renowned expert in Interventional Nephrology and medical education, as the hospital’s new Chair of Medicine. Dr. Asif will play a vital role in the hospital’s medical leadership team and also support the growth of the academic and research programs at Jersey Shore – the region’s only university level academic medical center.
For the past four years, Dr. Asif served as chief of Nephrology and Hypertension and professor of Medicine at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, where he established an ACGME-accredited Nephrology Fellowship program. Prior to that role, Dr. Asif served as professor of Medicine and chief of Interventional Nephrology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Florida.
Dr. Asif has published numerous peer reviewed articles, chapters and abstracts, and is lead author of a textbook focused on Interventional Nephrology. He has also won numerous teaching awards at the University of Miami, including Student Teaching Award 2003-2004 and Best Teaching Faculty of the Year Award 2006-2007 and 2007-2008.
A member and past president of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology, Dr. Asif is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He earned his medical degree from Punjab Medical College, University of the Punjab, Faisalabad, Pakistan and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center at the University of Illinois in Chicago, and his Pediatric Surgery residency at Mayo Hospital, King Edward Medical College, Lahore, Pakistan. He completed a fellowship in Nephrology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida.
