For Immediate Release
The Center for Wound Healing is located within Ocean Medical Center, at 425 Jack Martin Boulevard in Brick. It offers highly specialized wound care methodologies and treatments of chronic wounds and non-responsive conditions. Wounds which do not heal in more than 30 days often have underlying medical conditions and experts predict an increase in chronic wounds as rates of diabetes and vascular disease, combined with an aging population, increase the need.
Likely candidates for treatment at the new center are those suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, venous ulcers from varicose veins, infections, compromised skin grafts and flaps, and wounds that haven't healed within 30 days.
“Severe wounds can be debilitating, painful, and impair quality of life,” says Scott Cluley, M.D., a vascular surgeon and medical director of the Center for Wound Healing at Ocean Medical Center. “Our multi- disciplinary approach to wound care increases the accessibility of services to patients and enables our team to partner with other experts in the field to provide national best practices in evidence based protocols.”
Treatments at the Center include negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered tissues, biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies. Patients may also have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials and multi-center studies. As a second phase to service offerings, the Center will provide hyperbaric oxygen therapy starting in August 2012.
