In the United States, there are only a few hundred subspecialists dedicated to endocrine surgery. Alexander Shifrin, M.D., FACS, medical director of Endocrine Surgery at Hackensack Meridian Heath and Michael C. Sullivan, M.D., M.D.H.S. offer expertise in minimally invasive surgical techniques and advanced surgical procedures. In addition to expertise in surgery, Hackensack Meridian Health has one of the few programs in New Jersey that offers a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment for diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands.
With the collaboration of dedicated endocrine surgeons, endocrinologists, and other specialists, our multidisciplinary team provides a unique approach for patients with thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal diseases and cancers.
Our Multidisciplinary Endocrine Oncology Clinic is designated for patients with complex endocrine problems. Each patient visiting the clinic is provided consulting appointments with our specialists, who perform all necessary imaging studies (ultrasound, CT scan) and discuss results that same day.
Through the collaboration of dedicated endocrine surgeons, endocrinologists, and other specialists, we provide a multi-disciplinary approach for patients with thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal diseases and cancers utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment techniques.

Olatunde Fadare flew from Nigeria to receive endocrinology care and have his thyroid surgery with Hackensack Meridian Health. Mr. Fadare was first evaluated by Dragana Jokic, M.D. and Dr. Shifrin, director of Endocrine Oncology at Hackensack Meridian Health, for treatment and surgery. Dr. Shifrin successfully performed the surgery, and Mr. Fadare was well enough to make the journey home to Nigeria two weeks later. Mr. Fadare is one example of many who have traveled from abroad to receive care with our multidisplinary team at the Center for Thyroid, Parathyroid and Adrenal Disease.
