Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese healing medicine that has been practiced for centuries, often in a communal setting. It is based on the theory that energy, called Qi ("chee"), flows through and around your body.
How it Works: At Meridian Integrative Health & Medicine, our patients receive a 60-minute acupuncture treatment in a small group setting, ranging from 4-6 people, while relaxing on comfortable reclining chairs in our light-filled yoga studio. Acupuncture is practiced by inserting very thin needles into the skin at certain points on your body. This is done to influence the energy flow and encourage the body's ability to heal and self-regulate. Sometimes heat, pressure, or mild electrical current is used along with needles. Our acupuncturist works with points on the ears, scalp, face, arms and below the knees, so there's no need to undress or wear special clothing.
Benefits of Group Acupuncture: Evidence demonstrates that therapy in a group setting accelerates healing. Another benefit of group acupuncture is that the cost is significantly less than a private treatment. A private session averages over $100, if not covered by insurance. By seeing multiple patients at a time, fees are reduced to between $40 and $25 per session.
Group acupuncture is effective in treating a wide range of conditions, including:
