Jersey Shore University Medical Center Adult Partial Hospital Program Receives National Recognition

Jersey Shore University Medical Center's Adult Partial Hospital Program, known as Park Place, in Asbury Park has received the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Science and Service Award for 2008, for its implementation of an integrated program that treats people with serious and persistent mental illnesses since 1975.

SAMHSA, a department of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is a federal agency that focuses on a mission to build resilience, as well as, facilitating recovery for people with or at risk for mental or substance abuse disorders. The award honors implementation of evidence based interventions that are proven to be extremely helpful when combating and preventing mental illness and substance abuse. Jersey Shore University Medical Center's Adult Partial Hospital Program was one of the 29 recipients nationally of this prominent award and the only one from the state of New Jersey.

"Families and individuals expect the best services possible for the prevention and treatment of health conditions. This includes an expectation for the best services for the prevention and treatment of mental illnesses," said SAMHSA Acting Administrator Eric Broderick, D.D.S, M.P.H. "These award winners are blazing the trail to show how it can be done."

In order to receive this prestigious award, organizations must exemplify successful implementation of a recognized evidence based intervention. This also includes interventions that have been published in scientific literature or appearing on a federal state registry. "The Adult Partial Hospitalization program at Jersey Shore University Medical Center is a wonderful example of how a team of professionals can truly make a positive impact on the lives of their clients by identifying and implementing best practices in behavioral health care" said Joseph Miller, Ph.D., director of Meridian Behavioral Health Services. "This award recognizes the tireless work of our dedicated team of professionals at Jersey Shore."
