Southern Ocean Medical Center to Host
Women of all ages are invited to join an evening devoted to their personal health and wellness at Southern Ocean Medical Center's 21st annual Women's Health Night. This year's event will be held Wednesday, October 24 from 5:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. at the hospital. This free event will feature health screenings, educational seminars, and opportunities to meet Southern Ocean physicians, interactive displays, free gifts, literature and refreshments.
21st Annual Women's Health Night
Registration begins at 5:00 p.m., and guests are asked to enter through the main entrance and register at the Women's Health Night Registration Desk in the main lobby. Physician lectures offered this year include: Breast Surgeon Paramjeet Kaur, M.D.speaking on Breast Health at 5:30.p.m.; Obstetrician and Gynecologist Lisa Vernon, M.D. speaking on Hormone Replacement Therapy at 6:30 p.m.; and Cardiologist Michael Aaron, D.O. speaking on Women and Heart Disease at 7:30 p.m.
Prior to the event a free lipid profile (cholesterol screening) will take place. Women who would like to take part in the lipid profile should come to the Beach Plum Conference Room at SOCH at 1140 Route 72 West on Monday MORNING, October 22 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 am. Fasting for 12 hours is required prior to having blood drawn. (You may have medications and water as needed.) The lipid profile results will be available during Women's Health Night on October 24.
A variety of health screenings are also planned for the evening. The free screenings include: blood pressure, blood sugar, bone densitometry, colorectal cancer, skin cancer, balance, foot screenings, hearing screenings, pulmonary function and pap smears. Participants wishing to have a free pap smear are required to schedule an appointment through 1-800-DOCTORS prior to the event.
In addition to the free lectures and health screenings, Women's Health Night 2011 at Southern Ocean County Hospital also features a wealth of information on maternity services, nutrition, fitness, Meridian Cancer Care, Meridian Cardiovascular Network, Meridian Neurosciences, and other areas of health of interest to women. Guests will enjoy dozens of interactive educational displays hosted by healthcare professional representing Southern Ocean and Meridian Health.
