Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation Receives Double Honors
Two organizations recognize community support and leadership efforts of hospital foundationThe Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation, the primary fundraising entity for the Medical Center, which serves Southern Ocean County, received two honors just days apart.
The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce recognized the Foundation at their 100th Anniversary Gala Reception with the "Heart of the Community Award."
Additionally, the New Jersey Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) recognized the ongoing collective efforts of the Coordinating Council of the Southern Ocean Auxiliaries as an "Outstanding Community Organization" during their annual Excellence in Philanthropy Award Celebration.
The "Heart of the Community Award" was presented as a way of recognizing the Foundation Board and staff's contributions to improving the health care services and programs within Southern Ocean county.
Most recently, the Foundation worked with community members to generate nearly eight-million dollars in support for the expansion and construction of a new Emergency Department at Southern Ocean Medical Center, a $22 million dollar project.
"Community support was a pivotal component for this project," says Tom Dolan, Chairperson of the Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation. "We rely upon donations to sustain our journey to bring the very best, highest quality health care to the area residents. Being recognized for our campaign success speaks to the generosity of our many supporters."
The same week as receiving the chamber award, the New Jersey Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professions also recognized the Auxiliary Coordinating Council of the Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation as an "Outstanding Community Organization." The Auxiliary Coordinating Council was selected for their longstanding support of the medical center, dating back to the hospital's inception. The Council's support has been steadfast, and included a three-million dollar commitment to the recent Emergency Department expansion.
"This is a story that has come full-circle," says Deborah Allen, Foundation executive director. "The Auxiliary was formed in the 1950's by community members who saw an urgent need for medical services in Southern Ocean county. The medical center was built in the early 1970's in great part because of the funds raised by this group's grassroots efforts."
"These recent honors speak to the strong and historic relationship between the Medical Center and the community," says Joseph Coyle, president of Southern Ocean Medical Center. "The community was instrumental in establishing this hospital, and continues to help us grow and meet the changing health and wellness needs of local residents. We are honored to receive these awards that recognize the philanthropic aspect of care that is generated at Southern Ocean."
